This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:10-11. The difference between Godly Love and Worldly Love is that one is selfish, and the other is selfless.
Godly and Ungodly love are both expressions of what lies in our hearts. It’s an expression of how you are feeling, Godly love is unconditional and unceasing, it is the love that never abandons you or forsakes you. Godly love is expressed through god but can also be shown through certain people who are close to the lord and understand it. Ungodly love could be put as very conditional for example: when a middle schooled couple say they love each other and then end up leaving each other in the dust three days later. its the kind of love that has the ability to hurt a person really badly and leave them. Ungodly love is shallow compared to the depth of god's great love for us.
Both Godly and Ungodly love are very consuming; you engross yourself one hundred percent in it. Love is time consuming, it monopolizes your thoughts and you can’t think of anything other than your feeling of love. With Godly love you are consumed in God’s love, you feel the need to serve and show the love you feel in your heart, you need to express it to everyone. In Worldly love, most of the time it is lust you are feeling. You have a desire for a certain person, you need them, and all your thoughts revolve around them. You chase after love till you get it, but once you do it’s gone right away.
Worldly and Godly love is both insatiable, you are never completely satisfied and you always want more. In Worldly love you are constantly chasing after it, once you get it you have the need to chase after more. You are never content with what you have. Godly love is a little different, it is like a meal. You eat and drink, it satisfies you for a short time, but later you hunger and thirst for more, and you need to be filled again.
Godly and Ungodly love are different in the way that, once is selfish and one is selfless. The world takes us to a silver screen on which flickering images of passion and romance play, and as we watch, the world says, “This is love.” God takes us to the foot of a tree on which a naked and bloodied man hangs and says, “This is love.” Worldly love has the need for more and more. It doesn’t seem willing to give, but always willing to take away. It is very conditional in the way of “If you give me what I want, then I will love you”. Godly love has the need to express itself through acts of service and showing unconditional love to one another.
One serves others and one demands of others. Ungodly love is demanding of everything, time, money, and love. It is conditional and not willing to serve unless you serve first. Godly love is unconditional and willing. God is graceful in loving us no matter who we are, or what we do. It’s this grace, this mercy, which should motivate us to live differently for the rest of our lives. I’m an unworthy sinner that God chose to rescue and forgive. This is love.
Ungodly love is fleeting, it does not last forever. This kind of love is not fulfilling and only lasts for a short while, leaving you even emptier than before. Godly love lasts eternally and dilates. It fulfills you, leaving you joyful and full of love. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. Philippians 1:9-10
The reason I want to love like Christ is so that one day I can stand in purity and blamelessness before God. This is love.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
